A friend of mine wants to do a "spa day" to celebrate finishing up her AA degree. Can anyone recommend a place in the Cary/Raleigh/Knightdale area? Nirvelli in Cary (Nirvelli - Massage Spa Cary, NC - Day Spa, Facials, Manicure & Pedicure Cary) is along the lines of what we are looking for, but I've no idea if they are good or not.
You cannot go wrong with the Umstead Spa in Cary. My wife and I went their 2 or 3 anniversaries ago and loved it. I think you could spend the whole day there.

I went to the Umstead a few months ago and was not impressed at all with the hotel, the restaurant, or the spa. They claim to have a 5-star rating, but they must have paid someone off or something. If you go to TripAdvisor and check reviews, you'll see I'm not the only one who was disappointed in the Umstead.
I suggest she go to La Therapie -- I haven't been there, but I think it's a better idea to go somewhere where they focus only on the spa experience. La Therapie looks wonderful.
Being that the topic is Day spa. Does anyone know if anywhere in the Raleigh area is there a Spa facility or facilities that one can go to spend the day for a fee and enjoy amenities such as hot tubs, sauna, and steam room. I know there are many places (Haven't found one in Raleigh yet) where one can pay for a service such as a massage and enjoy the facilities, or one can simply pay a fee for usage of the facility without actually getting any spa services.
If anyone knows of any Spa Facilities where one can enjoy ONLY the facilities without actually getting any other services please post.
I loved the Spa at the Umstead. I've only had my nails done at the spa, but I definitely recommend getting there at least 45 min. prior to your service to enjoy the amenities. I also noticed that it had a grade of 100 on the "Nail Salon Ratings" on WRAL's website (under 5 on your side), which is a plus. La Therapie looks great, too! So many great spas in Cary!
If you get a gift certificate for services at a day spa, how do you tip? Do you ask how much the service costs on which to base the tip? And if you want to buy a gift certificate for someone, can you add the tip to it so that the person receiving it as a gift doesn't have to worry about it?
Thanks for the recommendations so far! Umstead looks great, but rather pricey (and they add an automatic 20% gratuity). That might wind up being over budget, but we'll see. La Therapie looks like a viable option as well.
I'm not much of a spa person (mainly b/c of budget!) but I've been to get a massage at Skin Sense in Cary a few times. Its reasonable and affordable, particularly for ppl just getting out of school!
I just purchased something on these lines from Twongo yesterday else I would have totally jumped on this.
