I have a New York State drivers license and i got clocked at 82 in a 65 on 540. Now I went to wake county court the other day for my scheduled court date for them to tell me that since im under 21 that i have to take a defensive driving class in order for them to reduce my ticket. (i still dont know what the damn fine is going to be!)

Now, im thinking about just calling an attorney or something and have them take care of it and be done with this whole ordeal.

Is there any way since I am not a NC resident (on paper) that excuses me from appearing in court?

everything is in my dads name, we live here, but im moving back in a month or so.

And will this second court date be the end of it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

...god i cant wait to get back on the island..

You can't avoid court because you are out of state unless you want to just plead guilty and mail it in. Get an attorney and let them reduce it to 9 over for you. Then you won't get points on your insurance- Since you are leaving the state if you can do a PJC you shouldn't need to worry about another ticket in 3 years.

Better get an attorney! I got a speeding ticket, went to court by myself only to realize I definitely needed an attorney. Friends also got tickets on the other side of the state and they were required to go to court. Unless you have an attorney who will go for you. The court can probably find out that you've been staying here, even though your ID says out of state Get a PJC, and then don't mess up again for 3 years or else you will get both tickets back on your record. Good luck!
