I've decided by next spring, I will travel out to the Raleigh-Durham area to help determine I should move.
But the trouble is, I am not sure what to do in a week or less. I will be around for at least 4/5 days, but no more than a week. Tell me, what I should experience around the area...... I know I will look at apartments....... eh, I should wait until I decide to move on that part.
Well, I am 22...... trying to figure out whether I should start a new life somewhere else or stay where I am, for one thing.
I live in the Seattle area. I like being around people whenever I can, really. I'm also a big sports fan, but that's about it.
Are you looking for an urban environment like Seattle or more Bellevue sort of set up?
If you are into college sports (ACC) this is a great area. Lots of devoted fans, sports venues, etc. Professional Sports in the Triangle is lacking.... we've got the Hurricanes (NHL). You have to drive to Charlotte for Pro Football. There is minor league baseball in Durham.
I lived in Portland during my 20s & 30s. But now that I have kids, the Triangle seems like a good fit for us. But I don't think I would have liked this area over Seattle or Portland for my 20s or even most of my 30s. It's much more family oriented than Seattle. Around the universities here you will find folks in their 20s. But again it just doesn't compare for me. BUT other young, singles seem to love it here. Keep in mind everything is on a smaller scale here.... which you might like or it might drive you crazy.
So why are you leaving Seattle? That might help in this whole picture.
The summers are hot & humid but you can't beat the other 3 seasons. In Seattle you get 9 months of rain & 3 months of glorious summer. Here you get 9 months of glorious weather and 3 months of scorching.
Do you like to play sports, too, or mainly watch? And which ones?
Are you looking for an area with a rich history? Interesting museums? Lots of bars? Beautiful natural surroundings? Career opportunities? Friendly people? A certain climate?
You can learn a lot about the Triangle by reading existing threads. That also might help you think of more questions to ask.
If all you're looking for is a fresh start, you might as well pick a place that's less expensive and has better job prospects than either NC or CA.
Well, my intent is to take a few-day trip there first, to decide whether I want to move there. I am asking, what should I do in the few days I am there, really.
And yes, things in NC are cheaper than where I am living (WA)..... I just know.
What I needed was some place where people my age can hang out, a good shopping center, and whatnot.
