Great forum! I'm originally from the south and after 20 years in the DC area I'm considering a return. I'm a single African American female in the IT industry. Raleigh seems very family oriented, which I love but is there a place for singles? Also, what are the job opp for IT project managers.

Thanks much

Post A Good Start

Check out the blue tool bar toward the top of your page. See "Search" in white lettering? Perform an advanced titles search using key words such as Singles and Urban within the Raleigh Durham threads. This should lead you to some useful discussions.

Also, check out the Men's Health Article where Raleigh and Durham are listed top 20 best places for women over 35. There are lots of "singles" lists like this. Raleigh makes an appearance on Forbes list as well.

It really depends on what's important to you. If you enjoy outdoors activities, the Triangle has a lot to offer. It is quite the college town as well. This may or may not appeal to you. Activities and people are spread out and you’ll have to make an effort to seek out other singles. I believe that’s why the Triangle is so active on this meet-up site.

In the IT space, a male dominated field, you certainly won't have a shortage of men. I can't attest to whether they'll be available or desirable though ;-).

Hailing from a smaller town I can't imagine anyone being too disappointed. However, Coming from DC you might be considerably under-whelmed.

Best of Luck!

Thanks for the quick response. I'll check out some of the links. Believe it or not underwhelmed would be a good thing. I've lived in the DC area since college - 20 years ago. It's been great, but now I'm looking for something different. Slower, more people oriented. I should have said is there a place for single 40 somethings? I'm definetly pass the party, club stage in my life. Looking for like minded folks who like to do cultural activities.

I'm pretty active, I spin, walk, even did my 1st 5K last fall, so it's good to hear that there's folks in Raleigh with similar interest.

Thanks, my girlfriend told me about this. Funny, she also listed DC as #10. Anyone living in DC will tell you this is one of the most difficult areas to meet people. Because of the fast past, folks are very isolated and generally only socialize with their own clicks. Once you estabish a group of good friends your'e great, but this is not the type of city where folks just walk up to you and say hi. Like anything, it is what you make it. I've enjoyed it, now looking for something new!
