Strange request perhaps, but I'm looking for an open-minded or "crunchy" family practice and/or pediatrician in or near Cary: a place that has seen a cloth diaper before and one with doctors who will not freak out if you mention you are making your own baby food instead of feeding baby from a jar.
So, if you know of any or especially if you have personal experience with one, please post here or DM me! Thanks!
That expression "crunchy" cracks me up. I just heard it from my daughter. Sorry I can't help. When we were having our first child almost 30 years ago it was "earth mother".
Most could care less about your diapers unless your baby has diaper rash.
They however do not have time to listen to a mom's bragging about
her homemade baby food recipes ,organic baby soap, and
furniture from recycled products.
Dr. Kimberly Ramsdell, a pediatrician in Apex is great. She is very pro attachment parenting, BF'ing, delayed vax and homepathic or alternative medicines or therapies. She really listens to the parents.
She sometimes has a long wait list for new patients.
I second Dr. Ramsdell, although she is far from "crunchy". She's open minded and believes parents have a say in how to take care of their children and shouldn't just blindly do what your pedi/AAP says.
She is, however, not accepting new patients. I did hear recently she may be starting a wait-list.
I see Dr. Cynthia Young (who I "met" on an AP board). A very crunchy friend of mine takes her kids to see Dr. Young and has been happy with the care they've gotten since infancy. My kids see Dr. Ramsdell, but she is not accepting new patients at this time.
Not sure how the comment about a mom bragging about her homemade baby food contributed to the conversation. Perhaps that person had a failed recycled furniture project that is still too painful to discuss... As a parent who deviates from mainstream parenting, I have first-hand experience with the sort of freaking out the OP suggested. Finding practitioners who are open minded and focused on the medical care instead of parenting theory is helpful for some parents. Also, I have personally found such practitioners to place a premium on time with their patients and schedule accordingly, leaving me plenty of time to display my homemade hemp shoes and whatnot.
