I'm new to the area and looking for a good dentist. I prefer to find a dentist in West Raleigh or Cary. I do have dental insurance, but it has a yearly payout maximum of $1000, so it would be helpful to have someone who isn't going to inflate the cost due to my insurance.
Hubby and I just went for our second cleaning at Dr. Bradford Pressley's office last week. We initially went there because I was able to get appointments right away last spring and their office takes Blue Cross.
Happy we found the office; everyone is very nice and has a light touch. We have had two cleanings each and the hygienist is wonderful. I had two silver fillings removed and replaced with white composite-Didn't feel a thing! You can watch tv to take your mind off the procedure too!
Dentistry Services, Oral Health, James A. Whitley, DDS, Raleigh, NC (http://www.whitleyandbensondds.com/ - broken link) We have been going to this dentist for 12 years and feel he is reasonable and gentle. He's at Millbrook and Six Forks.
So, let me say I am not a huge fan of dentists for a number of reasons, bad experiences with pain during fillings/crowns and with dentists that seem to lack compassion. Too many fast food type of dental practices out there. Today, I went to a new dentist, West Cary Dental with Dr. Patel. I was pretty nervous when I got there because you never know when you go to a new dentist what you are going to get, if they are going to be gentle. Anyway, my hygientist Amanda was outstanding in terms of compassion and being gentle. She told me steo-by-step what she was doing every moment she was doing something new. She also, and this is a first for me, she offered me a topical for my gums before she started to clean my teeth. She told me at anytime if I was uncomfortable with the cleaning she would stop, and she could put a topical on the area. I never did have pain, but it was nice knowing that option was available. Dr. Patel came in, and I had a similar experience with him. He was kind and gentle, and he allowed me plenty of time to ask him questions and he answered them without rushing me. Previoulsly, I've had dentists rush me out of there, and I appreciate that Dr. Patel is less about making money than he is about providing outstanding customer service. This will be my new regular dentist. I think other practices should look at this dentist's office as a good example of how doctors should treat patients. I don't know about the rest of you out there, but I am tired of paying high fees to doctors who spend zero time with you and they rush you out the door.

He's been my dentist since I moved here 4.5 years ago and I agree, he is phenomenal. I chose Dr. Patel based on the fact that he went to Tufts dental school. I come from NE and my former dentist was also a Tufts graduate. He was also outstanding. What a good decision I made in choosing Dr. Patel!
