Hi Everyone!

I have to get off of my family's contract, and my current plan with Alltel ended in July. We had a great plan with Alltel (their pricing is much cheaper than Verizon's!)

I'm debating between Verizon and T-Mobile. The difference is what I can get for almost the same price:

Verizon:
$60 - If I go with Verizon, I can get 450 minutes, free calling to Verizon customers (nearly everyone I know is on Verizon, but I only call a few people ever), and unlimited texting.
$99 - unlimited text, 900 minutes, smartphone

T-Mobile:
$75 - 300 Minutes, 5 friends/family numbers (which would likely be plenty), unlimited texts, smartphone.

Votes? What about service around here?

Thank you SO much!

I've personally never dropped a Verizon call around here. I've never used T-Mobile but my husband had them once. Brought the phone home, saw that he had no reception, but the store refused to let him out of his contract without a $250 fee. This was back in Michigan, so I'm not sure what coverage is like here...but customer service is national.

I'd never go into a store though... they're always so unfriendly and busy. I usually use the Verizon kiosk in BJ's. Rarely busy and awesome customer service!

The $60 VzW plan seems to be your best buy. VzW coverage probably better for most users too.

Verizon bought Alltel and their combined coverage (they've been sharing towers for years) is the best in the US. Verizon is more expensive more because it's better.

That being said if you don't use your phone to make calls and just to text mostly, there are text-only plans out there. I never understood "texting" really, kinda a waste of time and $$. It started in 3rd world countries because they couldn't make phone calls.

My vote is Verizon. Best coverage and for your usage it seems to be the best combo of package/features.

Verizon all the way. Just because T-Mobile has a good deal on a smart phone doesn't mean it's a great deal overall, you get what you pay for. Verizon has the better network.

I have t-mobile and have never had any problem with coverage in the Raleigh area. I used to have Verizon and they are good, but in my case it would be $30 more a month for the exact same minutes. Not worth it...
