You've read it all before...Yes, I'm a newbie in Raleigh (three weeks now), yes I am covered with mosquito bites, yes I'm struggling to adjust to considering insects when considering going outdoors in my own yard... blah blah blah.

You know the drill

There are threads upon threads on the subject, but I want a one stop place for local recommendations on managing the native fauna... pleeeeeese?

Thanks in advance...

[also, what works for you in dealing with bites you already have? windex works some (ammonia I guess) but there has to be a better way I'm sure]

You will learn that a screened porch is a must here in NC from May-October. Decks are useless. Screw putting on spray, that **** is nasty.

Any product that contains at least 40% DEET. I have some spray that is 40% and I have small bottles of OFF that is an oily spray and that is about 98% DEET. I am a mosquito magnet so I have to use the big guns to stay bite free. Yadda, yadda, I know DEET has its issues and it's not healthy, blah, blah, blah. Well that's what I use and that's what works (for me).

I vote for Deep Woods Off if it is that bad for you.

Toothpaste and ani-perspirant work on the bites. Haven't used the toothpaste but I know quite a few people that have used the anti-perspirant including myself and it gets rid of the itch and even the bumps on me.

Thanks to all of you so far...

I'm afraid screening off the deck is not in our budget for a while, so that leaves wearable repellent and/or stuff to burn/spray/etc. in the immediate area to get those critters.

DEET works for us. Everything else is a waste of money in my opinion.
