I've got a membership at the Y in Durham but it's just too far for me to go regularly. I live down near Southpoint (Grandale) and I was wondering what gyms people use down here. I'd like a full center with a pool and some b-ball courts, etc. if possible. TIA.

Have you looked at your employer? Some employers around here have specials deals with gyms, so you can become a member without having a contract. It's worth a shot!

Fitness World does not have a pool.
I am less than thrilled with their facility but there aren't many other options in SW Durham.

Agreed. For an indoor pool you either have to trek downtown, to Chapel Hill, or Cary. SW Durham really needs a parks and rec or YMCA facility.

I live near Southpoint and below to UNC Wellness Center, which has a pool, indoor track, classes, etc.

Have you got a UNC affiliation? My wife works for Duke but their facilities are too far for it to be feasible. I used to be a member of Peak Fitness in N. Durham and I really didn't like it but there's that one off of 54 (near exit 273) would be like 10 minutes away for me.

I am also looking for a gym in this area...Meadowmont is a bit too pricey and Peak Fitness seems a little sketchy to me...

Sammy, is that one still open? Others on the forum have mentioned that their Peak Fitness locations (Raleigh and Apex) are closed, allegedly temporarily.

Hmm. Dunno. I just remember seeing the building recently when we were going into town. I wouldn't be surprised if they were closed since they seem to be having a lot of trouble as a company. I need to find a gym, though. It's been too long for me and I just don't have the time to drive all the way up to downtown to work out.
