I, too am looking at Garner and Clayton and I'm curious about what the
board posters have to say about these areas. I was surprised to see that the population of Clayton is much less than Garner. I noticed that Centex has homes in both.

How rural are these areas?
What's the shopping like?

Thanks for you help.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the first house that I picked out and now
my search is on again.

We moved from Jersey to Clayton in June. Then Due to family circumstances we had to leave in October.

The house sits on the market. Clayton is really a good place to be. I did really like garner too. We went into Garner a lot. Keep in mind a small portion of Garner is in Johnston County. The other portion is in Wake County.

As a 17 year old.. I can speak volumes for the Johnston County schools. They really are doing A LOT of good things. GREAT teachers, and they keep building new schools to fight the overcrowding. Wake schools have too much relocation a lot of families complain of. So if you look into a wake county schools.. check into the likelihood of your kids being moved around. But I found my classes in Johnston County to be as good if not better than mine in Jersey. (And I go to a VERY good school district in Jersey).

A big factor is how country you are looking for. IF you want to have a nice country ride to go to get somewhere.. move closer to the center of Clayton. OR Garner. Garner has a lot more shopping, ect. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the highway Route 70. Which some people love.. other people hate. So figure out some of those things.

Any other questions? What things could make one area more favorable than the other for you?

And by the way..

As for Centex.. I am not sure what the status of availability of Centex is in Clayton. When we looked about a year ago to move in June.. they told us they had one piece of property left. Not sure if that has changed or what the status is.
