I'm supposed to drive from Cary, to Fairfax, VA, leaving here at 2 pm tomorrow. From the forecast it looks like I'll be in for a fun drive, as this is supposed to be the peak hours of the storm.

So I live with my family in a particularly hilly area of Wake Forest. Does this make a bit of difference?? I've always believed that tornadoes have trouble forming in hilly areas, hence the frequency on the plains.

Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

This is really bad advice. Tornadoes can change direction extremely quickly, giving an already panicky driver no time to make a good decision or even get out of the way.

With all due respect, given the choice of being on foot or in a vehicle, I'll choose the vehicle. Panicky, I am not. Though I would rather not be on the road with a panicky driver. Though considering what I have witnessed of NC drivers during a casual rainstorm, I would not even recommend that advice either.
