We want to take our daughter to see a performance of the Nutcracker in December, but do not want to pay the pricey$$$ amount at the Progress Energy Center.

Anyone know of any local performances in/around the Raleigh area??

Thanks!

That IS the local performance. The Nutcracker is a very large production, so there won't be one on every street corner. There is probably one major production of it in every large city in NC. There may be some smaller performances (by high schools or youth programs), but you will not get the same bang for your buck. If you want all the bells and whistles, first rate dancers, beautiful costumes, exploding sets, live symphony orchestra, etc. it will be expensive, but IMHO is well worth it!

Yes. I agree that the Carolina Ballet performance is the one to see. It actually is the state ballet, which is based in Raleigh. It definately is all the bells and whistles, with live orchestra, amazing costumes, and one of the best ballet companies in the Country. You can find out more at Carolina Ballet | Artistic Director Robert Weiss. It is not likely to sell out each performance, so you could try for cheap "rush" tickets. I think they have info on their website. This is definately the one where you will see tons of little kids all dressed up watching it.

They are also doing the first two shows in Chapel Hill this year, on Dec. 6 and 7.

There are other local groups doing it, but it will not likely be the "whole thing" as Eeyore says.

And I have to add, as a proud Mom, that if you go, watch for my oldest daughter who is a truffle in the production this year. She is the first kid on stage at the beginning of the second act!

The Carolina Ballet is 'the local' preformance.

However, you can see Triangle Youth Ballet perform. For details

By "local" I meant city dance studios, high schools, community colleges etc. Back in NJ it seemed it was performed everywhere(small towns, large towns, high schools, dance studios etc.) on large or smaller scales.

Thanks for the responses.
