Anyone notice the huge plumes of smoke rising up near the north end of RDU? (Off of Westgate Road...)
Is that a new plant or something? I wonder what kind of pollutants its throwing into the air.
I'm not familiar with that area and don't know the "stack" you are referring too, but I have to wonder if it is in fact emitting smoke. Are you positive it isn't simply steam being released?

I see that every morning driving by. Sometimes as NRG said it does appear to be steam. Some days its more than others. Being it does appear to eventually dissipate in short order I am thinking its steam. But will monitor this thread to see what it actually turns out to be.
we saw it as well this weekend and I thought, hmmmm, that is not normally here. Cloud like white smoke, but I have NO idea what it is or where it is coming from
Yah it's definitely new. I drive that route home daily and noticed it a week or two ago. It corrupts the skyline - the smoke (or steam) dominates the landscape in that area now. Yuck.
Thank God! I thought I was crazy and just never noticed it before. It's got to be steam. I studied it for a bit while at a red light and it does dissipate. If you are going down Lumley (from the airport towards the 70 overpass), it is to the left prior to the light. It looks like there are a lot of transport trucks in front of it. I'll see if google can help us!
