Not too sure about the current social membership initiation. I would call the club and they will send you all the information.
Keep in mind that, IMHO, there are far too many social memberships. The pool is mobbed in the summer. The kids camps sell out right away. Basically, anything available to social members is far too crowded.
I think the club's focus has been adding full members. They get much higher monthly revenue from them, so it makes sense to give good deals on the initiation.
Not to sound rude or anything, but why don't you try actually calling Prestonwood and talking to someone. If you're not the phone type there is a way to request membership information online:
What makes you think people aren't doing that, and just want to validate?
What they tell you on the phone and what people are actually paying are 2 different things. Also what one person tells you can often be different than another person.
Rory - I can tell you that you won't get differing info from the Membership office than what members tell you. Speculators and non-members might give you wrong info.

For a while if you bought a home in Weycroft a free social membership to Prestonwood was included in the price (initiation fee + first year dues). Not sure how many other communities struck this kind of deal with Prestonwood, but it could add to the pool crowding issue.
