Hey guys. I am moving to the Cary, Apex Area and I need a good bank. I would like a bank that allows me to access my account online. I also want to be able to access credit cards online through the bank website. Not all banks offer this feature and it is a handy way to get the bills in on time.

Also, I would like a bank that has ATMs all over the region or does not charge ATM fees for using other ATMs.

Is there a recommended bank for teachers or government workers? Someone recommended Coastal Federal Credit Union.

Thank you so much for your help!

State Employees or Local Government Credit Union would be the best option for you. I have an SECU account and used to work there and I have no complaints.

I would second State Employee's Credit Union. I've had terrific experience with them, never had a problem and excellent service.

My experience with Bank of America has been horrible - with my local checking/savings accounts, and also with my credit cards. Lots of problems with the online access, and just terrible customer service.

We're currently with BOA and plan to changes very soon. We totally agree with Chicky's statements and have had similar problems. One of our main gripes is that they "hold our paychecks" for a week before clearing....not like our paychecks are from a long distance bank - they're drawn from Wachovia!! We may switch to the Duke Credit Union since we're both employees.

Thank you for the help. If you have any other advice on banks and credit cards through banks, I would love to hear it.

I have had such a good experience with Chase bank and the 3% Chase Freedom Card. Unfortunately there is no Chase on the east coast so I have to switch over all of my accounts.

Ditto -- stay away from BOA -- there are few locations, the lines are terrible, the staff are badly trained. ATM fees at non BOA are outrageous.

If I didn't need to have banking in both Texas and NC, I'd move to a credit union in a heartbeat.

we used first citizens when we first moved here and they were great. since there really wasn't a convenient branch close to our house, we moved to wachovia and they have been fine. They have atm's all over the se, so atm access is convenient. i've had my girl scout account at rbc centura, and they have been great for that type of account.

Try to find a credit union. If eligible, SECU will meet your needs and has plentiful ATM's in the Triangle.

A credit union is the way to go. However, I have both personal and business accounts with Bank of America and have not had any problem so far. They clear checks within 24 hrs. I had my accounts at Wachovia first, and hated everything there. Also, I used to be a customer of Chase in NYC for 15 years and I am glad I am not anymore. I used to have my mortgage, HELOC, personal, business and credit card accounts with them, and they have changed their services in the past 2 years. It's not as good as it used to be. I am glad I am not with Chase anymore!
