We live in Glen Laurel and they're doing some sort of grading around Glen laurel Road and Hwy 42. I heard a while back this was in the works, but it was never solid information, only hearsay.
Also, those of you that live on this side of Clayton near Hwy 42 east, how have you utilized the new Hwy 70 bypass? I took it home today from Raleigh going east, but there's nowhere to get off right bedore it merges with Business 70. There are only two exits and the Hwy 42 exit isn't far enough down to benefit me and I have never been on Ranch Road, so I'm not familiar where that would dump me off on Business 70.
Unfortunately for me, living where we do, I don't think it's going to benefit me whatsoever. I was really looking forward to the bypass, but since it's completion, I'd say it's a huge letdown.
If you get off the bypass at the Ranch Road exit, you follow the signs towards Clayton. Ranch Road takes you on the street between Burger King and Wendy's. It is a straight shot. My husband takes the bypass everyday and he takes it to Bus 70 and goes in the back way off Powhatan. He prefers that exit to Ranch Road but that is him.
Yeah, I'd wondered the same thing re: 42E 4 lane...it's a pain while they do whatever they're doing. I hope they complete everything before school resumes (although actually, we'll be districted for Powhatan Elementary now).
As for the bypass, my thoughts exactly. It seems to be out of the way to take the bypass to get to Raleigh. I've never taken the Ranch Rd exit either. It's definitely a longer distance than riding down 70 business....but it actually does end up being a couple minutes faster....so eithe way you're out of luck...you either waste gas waiting at stop lights on the biz route or waste gas driving out of your way on the main bypass route. Happy driving!
