I am looking to rent a townhouse near down town Durham. It is just south of 147 on Hayti Lane. Does anyone know anything about this area. What is the average rent in this area? (Just to make sure I am not paying too much)

That would definitely be a rougher part of Durham. Average rents will probably be a bit on the lower side due the area. I took a look see on Google Maps and the townhouses appear to be tri-plexes and duplexes. Is that correct? Three bedroom? A really rough estimate would lead me to think the rent may be in the $800-$950 range. The higher end would usually be if they are newer construction.

Yes there are 3 townhouses in each group. Thank you for your insight on the area. I was hoping that since it was close to the downtown area it was better than it looked.

No not at all. There are some better areas that border downtown and actually in the downtown area that's seeing a lot of development and rebirth, but this one isn't it. I've seen some evidence of gentrification in some places that many view as 'bad areas'. It's definitely getting better.
