I'm mapping out a long training run from Raleigh down to the Deep River Brewery in Clayton that largely follows the Neuse River Greenway. It is smooth sailing along the Greenway Trail until it intersects Mial Plantation Road in Clayton. This would put me about 2 miles from downtown Clayton and the Brewery. Has anybody ever ridden a bike or run from this location to downtown Clayton? If so what route did you take?
Looking at Google Maps Street View Mial Plantation Road and Old US 70 have almost zero shoulder and don't look like safe places to run. I may be out of luck in terms of finding a safe route to downtown on foot, but thought I would check here first in case somebody here had a good idea. Thanks!
What fun! Dire Wolf has given you the shortest route. Most of Main Street has a sidewalk, and O’Neal has a sidewalk for maybe half of the route (from Wilson St to Main Street). Be careful on the rest of O’Neal... there is no extra pavement to use. If you’re on the “grass”, it will be a bit rough, since it is very rural out there and the grass is overgrown.
Thank you both! I appreciate the input and agree that Dire Wolf's suggested route looks like the best option. I do wish that O'Neal had a sidewalk for the entire length. I might scope out that road before I ever run it. Hope to make the Raleigh to Clayton Run one weekend soon before it gets too warm. Thanks for the help!
