This has changed so many courses (pun) that I've lost track.
The article states "Last June, commissioners voted 4-3 to buy the land...." but now "Commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to give the land to the Town of Fuquay-Varina at no cost"
So I'm confused. Who currently owns the land? The developer? Or did the county already buy the land?
And now the county is giving the land to FV for free?
Is this the best outcome for the residents? I don't recall what the residents wanted.
There is a clause in the decision that says that if the Town of Fuquay-Varina cannot profit from the land if they decide to sell it. The land is expected to be discussed at a town meeting Tuesday.
Um...so they would have to give the land away? Am I missing something? Not sure what they mean by "if they decide to sell it".
As a taxpayer this doesn't feel right to me, but hopefully I'm misguided.
I guess I don't understand why the county as a whole is paying to gift Fuquay 140 acres of land. All because some NIMBY's didn't want other houses behind their houses? Again, maybe I'm misguided.
Well, it’s something of a compromise. The county gets out having spent only $4 million rather than the $23 million it would have spent to build a park there.

Right.
The idea is that the public still gets a park, but it will be maintained by the town, not the county. Such as Bond Park or Apex Community Park.

Yes the public gets a park, for the price of the land to the county and price of development and management by Fuquay Varina.
I live in Cary, but use Apex, Cary, Raleigh parks at will.
Works for me.
