The nicest hotel I've stayed at in Raleigh is this one: Raleigh Hotel | Aloft Raleigh

It's not too far from downtown and there's some decent places to eat right near it. The Mexican restaurant next door is fantastic.

If OP stays in Brier Creek they will be in the middle of everything. However if they just want to see downtown Raleigh (and the great art museum), then stay downtown or near Crabtree Mall.

It may be in the middle of everything, but it is not really close (walking distance) to anything either.

If OP has a car, it's a perfectly good place to stay, with a variety of hotels. OP did not say that everything must be in walking distance.

As far as things to do here are some good ideas:

Please elaborate. What is everything? I want to go to the museum of art and natural history.

Good to know. I am not one for renting a vehicle in an unfamiliar place. I would rather take public transportation.

I understand. There are buses in Brier Creek, but you might be happier in downtown Raleigh or Durham.

I believe I will. It looks like many of the things to do are downtown. I am going to go to Big Ed's on Saturday. I want some good french toast.

stay downtown Raleigh then, use the free R-line bus service downtown, and Uber wherever else you need to go.
