We are considering moving to Del Webb in Amberly. Could anyone give us an idea of what electric, heat, etc cost on an annual basis. We are presently living on Long Island outside of NYC.

Here is a thread about different utility costs for various sized homes in Raleigh and Cary. It might help you get an idea.
Our home was completed in 2000, and is, according to the builder's plans, 4000 s/f. We live in the downstairs, and I only occasionally turn-on the system upstairs. We also live rather frugally -- the heat is set at 65-68, the a/c a bit on the cool side, maybe 75.
I have been pleased our electric bill is seldom higher than $100/month, and the gas bill for heat has never gone over about $185, and that's only if hubby has been cranking-up the gas logs in the family room.
I had much higher utilities down on the Coast of NC, with the exception of water, but even that is now more in-line with what I am used to, given we are no longer watering the lawn. Our highest water bill was around $300 (I almost died) but it has been in the $40-60 range, depending upon whether we have a lot of company staying with us.
