My first ever post! Lots of first evers coming up. I am moving to NC and considering Clayton. Cary and Apex are too overcrowded and new. Wake Forest is my other choice, but home prices seem better in Clayton. My move is based on two things: my children are in middle and high school. I have heard that the Clayton schools are pretty good. Maybe not as good as Wake County, but not as much redistricting? So I would like the schools to be good quality, safe and not too overcrowded. Also, I am have a yoga business and would like to build that up in NC. It seems there is a lot of yoga in Cary/Apex/Raleigh. So is anyone in Clayton or the surrounding area interested in yoga?
I am moving from New Hampshire and would like to move a community similar to this one. With a rural feel, 20000-30000 population and safe. I don't care if there are malls. I am not looking at the new communities. Am getting divorced and moving to NC so the kids can be near their dad. So with the divorce - money is very important. Looking for a house for less than $150,000 and hoping to get a small amount of property, less then 1/2 acre, but not as small as the new lots in Cary seem.
Any information you guys give would be helpful....
I think you did hit the nail on the head about the area, clayton, yes the schools may not be perfect or ranked as highly as wake county, but that is something youw ould have to check into more. Both clayton and wake forest are in a bit of a boom, and I know wake forest has a yoga studio downtown. Clayton seems to be attracting a number of relocated people, and there are new areas coming up so you may be able to get the business you want there.
My sister just moved back to the triangle after being in manchester for 6 years. Her spouses still works for autodesk and telecommutes from here. Anyhow, they really did like new hampshire, but didn't like the cold too much!
I think traditionally clayton and wake forest have been considered rural, but I also remember a time when cary was rural, so all things change. Wake forest is probably more on the way than clayton, which is why the housing is less there than in wake forest.
Definitely do your research! I also know in wake forest the parks and rec department teaches yoga, so you may want to check into that for clayton. I don't know what they offer but they may be able to tell you if the people are showing an interest in it.
Thanks Leigh! Moving is already nerve wracking but with everything else beginning again it's even more!
Small world - Manchester is also up and coming. But I am looking forward to moving away from the snow and cold too.
Do you have any futher information about different residential neighborhood in Clayton? Safe to be outside, biking, areas with families (here in our neighborhood there are NO other children).
I know the big new neighborhood going up there (with people already moving in) is flowers plantation. I will look into some other things and let you know!
Hi-live in Clayton and love it. The local parks/rec does offer yoga but not sure about anything else. I havent seen it advertised anywhere else. I would say that with the influx of people here you could do well. Clayton has a small town feel but is close to lots of nice places-Raleigh, Wilmington etc so many are finding it an attractive place to live. And I think you could find a nice place for your budget. Good luck on your move!
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Especially about the budget. Being a divorcee after staying home for 15 years (out of the job market!) and having to start over is a situation I never thought I would find myself in. So I am relieved to hear I should be able to find something nice on such a small budget!
Hi, my family and I just moved into Clayton weeks ago and we loved it! We lives in Flowers Plantation area - the house price is very reasonable (North Farm and North Farm Cottage subdivisions for your price range). ALot of great kids are living there and my child made new friends instantly.
School there is wonderful. I didn't have any problem with my child's school at all. As for as for yoga business - we do need one. It would be nice to have one in our area.
Clayton is rural, but it's growing and more businesses are being built. New highway 550 is being built and that would bring more traffic to the area.
I just drove through the flowers plantation (as a pp discussed) and, to me, it seems like a great location for you. It feel rural (great county feel) but it close to amenities as well. I also thought, based on what the community is going to be like you could also rent space there for a yoga place. They have commercial space available in the percy flower store building as well as two other commercial sites. Anyhow, I think the amount of people who are going to move there in the next two years will be great for your business because the development will be multi family, from 150's to 450's, plus townhouses and some rentals.
It looks like it is going to attract a number of people.
I am feeling very good about Clayton and am looking all over the place for information. Flowers sounds nice and when I evetually visit, I will check it out. (Depends on when our house sells, but we have someone coming to look today!)
