In January I have a few things I need to get done/ checked out with my car. I haven't had the best luck with mechanics in the area, but I haven't sought advice through this type of forum before (hoping it will help).
In January, I will be moving to Holly Springs, so preferably someplace nearby would be ideal, but I am willing to go a bit further for someone really good who doesn't over charge or bill you for things you don't need.
Thanks in advance to those of you who may have some advice!
Sincerely,
katnc

You should post the make of the car. Many mechanics specialize in certain makes.
It is a Hyundai 2009 with 55,000 miles on it. The only real issue I am having is that my brakes screech at certain speeds. I had them tested and "fixed" 6 months ago and slowly the screeching started to return. After I picked up my car from the last mechanic, there was a very quiet high pitched sound; however, the louder sound was gone so I thought they had fixed the issue. Unfortunately, I am no expert, so I would love some referrals for the next place I go.
I also need the general stuff, like oil change/ tire rotation/ fluids checked, etc... I basically want to make sure everything is running smoothly, because I will have the car paid off in a few weeks and would like it to last beyond grad school.
I also just got a new job that will require some travel a few days/ week, so I imagine I will be visiting more frequently in the future.
Anyhow, I just don't want to be taken advantage of... When I lived in Wilmington, my family used the same mechanic for a very long time and we trusted them. They were honest and did not overcharge. I hope to find a long-time mechanic here.
I had great service from Choice Auto Repair. They are attached to the Kmart on Western. A little far for you but worth the drive, in my opinion. I needed the codes cleared on my daughter's Volvo, something that would cost about $90 at other shops, and the service manager did it for me at no cost! They specialize in Japanese imports but were willing to help me with my Volvo issue.
While I was there, two ladies brought in a donated car for the guys at Choice to fix up for a family in need, something they do all the time. Very honest, respectable guys.
One of the greatest recommendations I've ever received was to use Creech Import Repair on St. Albans Drive (just off Wake Forest Road, about a mile north of 440). I've owned cars for over thirty years and have had some good experiences previously, but Creech is head and shoulders above the rest. Honest, reliable and reasonably priced (and I'm a jaded former NYer).

Advance Auto uses a scan tool to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes and clear them. This service is done while-you-wait and at no cost. I think other auto parts stores (AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc.) do the same. I know about Advance Auto from first-hand experience.
Some cars (my '99 Nissan Maxima, for instance) can be reset in two minutes using an ordinary screwdriver.
I'm a Do-It-Yourself mechanic so have no personal recommendation. However, a close friend who prefers to have the professionals service his three vehicles has good things to say about Gaston's Garage in Apex. Home - Welcome to Gaston's Garage
