Have work compatriot coming for a few visits and need lodging convenient to Treyburn Corporate Park for several short visits. Don't know much about Butner except that it seems like it would be closer than downtown Durham for convenience to the Park; would y'all recommend it ? It looks like there are 3 hotels from which to choose- any suggestions for one over the others?
Thanks
Butner is.....interesting. If all he cares about is a bed, then it's fine I guess. But if he wants to go out to eat, have something to do...I'd avoid. It's a town mostly built around instituional facilities with some residential. Not much else there. I personally woulnd;t put someone up there unles they were working at one of the institutions and needed to be close by.
Thanks for your insight. I've just never paid much attention to the area so I didn't know what to make of it. All I know about is the correctional institutions, and that was something of a concern from my point of view.
I go up to Butner for work on occasion. Nothing wrong with the town, just a small place with nothing really to offer in terms of dining or entertainment. The ride can be quite pleasant depending in where you come from. I'd opt to lodge closer to the amenities in Durham and have a slightly longer commute.
Yes, there's nothing "wrong" with it, there's just very little there and everything sort of revolves around the various institutions. I worked out there for 5 years and the commute was fairly long but also pleasant. not much traffic and nice scenery.
Instead of downtown proper or south Durham, you might look at the Hampton Inn & Suites at I-85 and Duke/Gregson -- could hit I-85 and head up to Red Mill Rd and over to avoid the north Durham morning traffic.
