I am still in the "planning" stages of the relocation, but I am getting more excited about it every day.

I will be moving from CT. I have lived here all my life. I am a young 37, single, no kids and - after recently completing my master's in elementary education - am absolutley craving a fresh start in a new place. I have 4 weeks left of my student teaching practicum and will obtain my CT teaching certification in early January. I have heard that Wake County and Johnston County schools are excellent.

My dad and stepmother moved first to Garner then to Raleigh back in the mid 90's and lived there for about 7 or 8 years. Each time I visited, I felt like I was "home". I've always been a country girl at heart and - even in my more active and social mid 20's, I loved the peaceful, laid back lifestyle of the area and the overall genuine hospitality of the people I encountered during my visits. My parents now live in MD, but NC has never left my heart.

Other than the familiarity of having spent a lifetime in CT, the only thing I will truly miss about this state is the landscape. The hills, the trees, the state parks, the many wonderful hiking trails.

Will I find that in the Raleigh area? Or at least close-by?

My other interests include motorsports (I race autocross, but enjoy watching all types of motorsports), rowing, the gym, hiking, hockey, tennis, theater, movies, crafts, gardening... and a good library is a must. Also, I'd love to own my own place sometime soon. I love some of the townhouses I see listed in the area.

Will I find all of this in that area?

A kind and handsome someone special to share it all with would be ideal, as well. But I hear they are on back-order?

Default Autocross

Hurricane Region - Porsche Club of America - Calendar (broken link) this site lists some autocross events. My husband and I are into old cars and bikes. We have an old Jag and a Triumph, some old Chevy's and Fords. Can't keep them all at the same place, HOA would have a fit. We're over in Clayton, NC. Check out the Flowers area. Nice townhomes going up there.

Kristina one word.........WELCOME! You have two things going for you coming here....1 is a future teacher and we need all we can get, and 2 you like landscape. The hills are a bit taller in parts of CT but other than that the area all rooks a rike! North of Raleigh in Wake Forest you get some rolling hills and lots of trees (well a few less trees as its growing and they have to build somewhere). But Falls Lake is right up here and there is lots of hiking trails and camping, fishing, boating (man over board), and plenty of sunshine (glasses are a must). Without them the whites of your eyes will tan! J/K!

Only thing we are asking new comers to bring is lots of smiles and a gallon or 2 of water! lol WELCOME!!!!

Kristina, we moved here from CT last year and it was THE BEST move we could have ever made. What part of CT are you coming from? We were near the casinos...the only thing the casinos did was increase our property value, thereby increasing our taxes - giving us just one more reason to make the move. I work for myself so I can work from anywhere, but I prefer working from my home office in Clayton Pointe to working in my crappy basement in CT.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Most teachers I know abhor censorship....so you might want the head's up that the Johnson County school board is looking to pull most challenged books from the system.

This is what you will be dealing with. Be sure you are comfortable with it if you work in Johnson county. Wake county may have it's own issues...but thankfully nothing like this.

Umstead park has some nice hiking trails. There is also Falls and Jordan Lake fairly close by. I always like the Greenway trails that wind through some part of Raleigh and Cary. They are not as pretty as the parks, but nice for short walks on green areas within the city... and some have some good views.

There is plenty of demand for teachers in the area. I have a few friends that teach in Wake County and I have worked with a few teachers that have moved from NJ and other parts. Good luck on the job search and welcome "home" to NC.

You will find alot of people from the north in general, but I have run across many from CT. I have several clients from CT. and I am also from CT. Who would of even thought it when I moved here over 20 years ago. I am trying to plan another trip home but my sister told me it snowed a foot there yesterday, and then her car got stuck at the bottom of her driveway. She then had to be pushed by the neighbor, because she flooded her car and then it wouldn't start this morning....YUK and no thank you. Now I remember why I moved ;-)
