Just wondering if anyone had information about this school beyond the website. It sounds intriguing, but not so much info about curriculum, accreditation, athletics, tuition. It is really under the usual school radar....
Rejoice Community is actually a great school! It just opened last year. The teachers are great! They have a strong academic program in place and they have an emphasis on the performing arts. They do not have any athletic programs, however. If you are looking for a small Christian environment with quality education, you should check it out. Tuition is $415 for elementary and a little more for middle school and high school. Very affordable.
We have been exceptionally pleased with the school. Very small classroom settings; no more than 12 children in a class for the lower grades and I think it's about the same for the middle and high school grades. The school basically uses the same curriculum you find in most other Christian schools around here, Abeka for the most part, in the lower grades. The administrator has a Ph.D. in education and is very invested in the curriculum standards.
The students get a lot of 1:1 teaching time with the teachers and work together in small groups a lot. Our child functions better in the smaller classroom setting and he also gets to work a grade-level ahead of what his Wake County placement would be otherwise. There is no school on Fridays and we love it. We find our child is able to better focus and work harder on his curriculum over a 4-day span and with less distractions in the way so they get much more accomplished in less time. We have Fridays to spend with the family, do some homeschooling of own choosing, field trips etc.
Because the school is still new, going into its second year now, it is still getting its wings and experiencing some growing pains. I believe they are already starting to run out of space to add additional classrooms and the classes are filling up to capacity. The parental community and involvement is still evolving as well, and I hope to see this continue to strengthen and develop.
There is a good lineup of teachers in place for the coming year. All come from educational backgrounds, exude Christian faith through their interactions with the children and are dedicated to teaching with little emphasis on administrative minutia. It is a very different environment from the public school setting, but a welcome and positive change for us. I honestly could not imagine sending our child back to public school now and very glad to have this kind of option in our area.
