We are looking to buy a townhouse (don't think we can afford a detached home) in the west Cary area (an area convenient to my work in southwest Durham) for less than $200,000. We like the good schools there and it is convenient to work. Any recommendations for specific developments? Stonewater? The Amberly area? Something along 55 and not too far south, but closer to Durham? Any advice will be appreciated.
Haven't seen any town homes in Amberly under $200k, unless Pulte of Standard is building them.
MI homes is building new townhomes in the O'kelly Chapel/Yates area, which will have the new UNC Welness center right next door. I'm not sure about the price though...
I'd also recommend N. Cary (27513, near Beechtree/Cary Academy Area) is also very convenient to Durham, due to it's proximity to I-40. I live in a Beechtree Community of Cary Pkwy and my commute to work in RTP is only 14 minutes. Maybe 20 minutes if I leave at 5:15, but not bad.
Also, anything along Davis Drive Corrider (which is really what has been suggested) will work well.
I think one can get a nice single family home for under $200k, depending on what you need, and how you define "nice". (I sure could).
Ditto Beachtree. I know someone who recently sold their townhouse for 150 ish. You have to know the landscape whether you get 2 floors or three. There are always sign up and convenient to I-40

The 3-floor ones all back to the pond.

Weird thread to bump for that comment. West Cary has changed a ton in the past 5 years. I hope the OP did buy a townhome for 200k 5 years ago because they'd be sitting pretty now.
From someone who has lived a year in West Cary and a year in Morrisville in the past 2 years they are indistinguishable.
