My understanding is that NC state fair is the largest midway and largest agricultural event in the country. Most days, especially in the mornings, are fine to go, I would just avoid tomorrow because it's "free" day with canned food. People come out of the woodwork for that. We went on free day last year and I really wished I had not!

I don't know, but I invite you to the Texas State Fair (it's the last week) BigTex.com which is commonly billed as the largest in the country (3 million visitors). It is in Dallas at Fair Park http://www.watermelon-kid.com/places/FairPark/Fairpark.htm,the (broken link) largest remaining Art Deco complex in the world.

I don't know, that's what I read on the NC state fair's website. Actually they said it was the largest "midway" in North America. I don't think it was based so much on how many people attend, but based on the number of rides/attractions etc.
JohnE1000, there are some good recent threads with lots of good fair info. Have you done a search?
There was one very long and helpful thread started about 2 weeks ago. I didn't read all the posting, though. I thought to get people feedback after the fair acutally started. I want to go, but I don't want to waste so much time searching for parking and waiting online for tickets.
