my family and I are being transferred to the Fayetteville area at the 1st of the year, have been told it is a bad place....but not sure if we are being told the truth, we have children and one of them has special needs, so how are the schools there? the crime rate? what areas are the best to live in? any info would be great.

Thanks

Fayetteville isn't really the T"riangle", so you might get better luck posting one level up in the General NC forum (I usually see a lot of Fayetteville threads there).

Bottom line, it's a big military town, and those aren't generally known as being confused with Beverly Hills or Martha's Vineyard. However, every area has its nice parts (and it's "perfectly fine" parts), including Fayetteville. It has the biggest mall in Central NC and pleny of children, so there have to be lots of nice area for families. I would search the General NC board for posts about Fayetteville and probably some of your questions will be answered, and you can ask clarifications on others.

Here is a snapshot of the town with some basic data.

Agreed. Do some reading first, as there have been a dozen or so military families relocating within my memory. There is also a regular poster who is a Realtor and retired military who remained in the Fayetteville area.

You should specify a budget, and whether you are looking for a house or apartment, whether you prefer a suburban environment or out in the country. Perhaps also specify the age or school grade of your special needs child. Some recent posters have been happy with Hope Mills to the south of Fayetteville. Others like Anderson Creek Club to the north, and there are some great schools in Fayetteville itself. Here's one recent thread with many suggestions for neighborhoods: https://www.city-data.com/forum/north...eville-nc.html
