They're pretty nice I think. Never been in one, but it's a nice area next to the lake. Fairly quiet area, some students, probably some grad students and younger professionals. The Lake stays pretty busy with dog walkers and joggers.
I think that complex just had a fire... newsobserver.com | No sprinklers in 3 apartment fires (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/wake/raleigh/story/707586.html - broken link)
I live in Wildwoods and the fire only affected 1 of one of the buildings, no one was hurt and the rest of the umpteen buildings are fine.
PROS:
The best thing about this place is that it is smack dab on the trail around Lake Johnson. If you someone who needs to go a few miles often (dog, running, biking) then its a good place. Since moving here my gf and I have made living near a public park a pre-requisite for our first home.
Another nice thing is that it is so close to the belt-line/I-40 junction. I can get to my job in Durham in 25 minutes and NC St is only 4 miles away so my gf can ride her bike or drive in 10 minutes.
CONS:
Walls and ceiling can be thin if you have a rambunctious child above or deaf people next to you. Also, parking can be an issue if have two cars. The place was built in the mid 80's so its starting to deteriorate.
OVERALL:
My gf and I looked at like 10 places when we moved here and are pretty happy with Wildwoods. The best part has been that they are willing to help us out on rent if we have any qualms with the apartment.
May I recommend The Marquis at Crossroads instead? It's a nice little gated community just down the street. If you go into the office and talk to a salesperson you'll see that the prices are actually a little cheaper than Wildwoods. The apartments were built in 2000 and all have 9' ceilings and other various amenities like garden tubs and tiled foyers. We lived there for a year before buying our first home and overall were quite happy with it. (Eventually though we just got tired of apartment living, luxury or not.)
