I live near hwy64 and downtown Apex and I've been hearing low booming noises for the past half hour. I hear that tracking may be coming to Chatham county, have they started already?!

I live in the downtown Raleigh/NCSU area and we heard some mysterious loud booms a couple of weeks ago. It was loud enough to definitely freak me out for a minute. For sure it wasn't gunshots or a dumpster or a vehicle backfiring or even a transformer blowing.. We're familiar with what all those things sound like and there's no way.. Our first thought was those weird YouTube videos we had seen about the unexplained booms in Wisconsin (if you haven't seen them just search for "booms in Wisconsin" and you'll find them!). After a little Internet research it seems like this kind of thing is happening all over the world! Kinda freaky... I say next time anyone hears them the best thing to do is call 911 to report it, if they get enough calls maybe they'll do some kind of investigation. We are extremely curious to find out what this is!

I keep checking this thread from time to time as well....very curious to know what these booms are. I don't think I have experienced them but enough people are saying its not a gunshot, dump truck, etc type boom that it certainly bears further investigation. Hopefully someone pursues.

Default dont bother

If it was something that seem to come out of a movie like a 2012, end of the world or underground tunneling....I dont think that anyone is going to just jump up and admit it.

I used to live in Fayetteville and also had blasting going on right behind my house in Chapel Hill for pretty much all last summer. I don't know that I would even notice this booming y'all are talking about.

The big guns on the military bases can rattle houses a long ways away. My parents' house was probably 10-20 miles from where they were firing and it would make the whole house shake and rattle sometimes. I barely even noticed it. I'd say it could very well be something military.

Alternately the blasting is pretty loud and rattling too. Scared our poor dog. They were replacing all the sewer lines and had to blast out rock underneath the road.

I vote for one of those scenarios rather than the end of the world!

I don't know if that would make most people more comfortable... Suddenly hearing large amounts of unexplained military training all over the world. Hmmm.

I haven't heard the booms lately...but admittedly haven't been outdoors as much in the last few weeks. The last time I heard them I was indoors though. They are just easier to recognize when I'm outside, and not wearing earplugs while running lawn equipment.

6:45pm Friday....loudest one I've heard in a while, shook our house.

Maybe if enough people report it to WRAL or call 911 we'll figure it out.

Heard two booms tonight, but these sounded a lot more like a dump truck slamming it's dump bed down....not nearly as powerful as the ones from previous months. Came from the same general area of 98 and 50.
