I agree on the Durham recs...Duke Gardens is a *must*---that's the place where I felt I could absolutely love living here! Nasher Museum is nearby, and of course Durham eateries are THE best in the Triangle. My wife has finally agreed w/ me on this after defending Raleigh for years...Piedmont and Rue Cler are both in Durham, and great spots. Pop's is also a nice place to check out. Tylers has a good beer list (near the Bulls park). Locopops is a paleta place (or Mexican popsicle place near 9th street--check it out).

After dinner in Durham, drive down 15-501 and check out lovely Chapel Hill and neighboring Carrboro. I've never taken people there who weren't charmed by it. My friend who now lives in LA wanted to move here the second he saw the place! Raleigh's improving, but I would show someone CH and Durham if you want to see something different than your average place. I think both provide a better opportunity for strolling by foot as well if you're interested.

Oh, try the Indian restaurant on Hillsboro next to the coffeehouse near Arby's. You'll love it

If you're going to be here Friday night you might check out the First Friday art walk in Raleigh. Here's a link with more info:

To find out more about the food scene in the Triangle, read through the forums for the South on Chowhound.com. There are plenty of people from the Triangle on those boards & they are very helpful.
