We have our home listed for sale (we're in Apex). Our realtor posted about 25 pictures on our MLS listing, which can be viewed from any of the "search" sites. Twice in the last week, I have noticed someone drive up in front of our home, roll down the car window (not even get out of the car), take a photo, then drive off. Two different people in two different cars. Anyone have this happen? I can't imagine its a realtor because they could not be taking decent photos that quickly from inside a car, and as I said, there are lots of pictures online already! I asked our realtor and she didn't know either. Just curious!

Probably people driving around looking at houses with "for sale" signs. Not everyone uses the Internet or is ready to use a realtor. That's my guess.

Or maybe they are just checking neighborhoods before actually looking at the houses and snapping a picture to remember which is which later?

Once upon a time, when our house was on the market, several people did drive by photos. When we asked the realtor she said it was probably appraisers or another agent taking "current" pictures for potential buyers.

Maybe people taking pics of houses they're interested in to send someone else? I had to do this when I was looking here and DH was still living in Boston.

I guess I assume everyone has access to internet and would see that there are 25 professional photos online.

If you are really curious, Google your address and maybe your subdivision name and see what images turn up.
Also, check ads on Craigslist to see if a photo shows up.
Agents are loading Craigslist with tons of home ads, some walking the edge on ethical boundaries (not to mention Craigslist TOS).

Anyway, it is also very easy to shoot photos with a smartphone and email them directly to a friend or family member, and you may be seeing something like that, too.

Smart phones also tag the pics with GPS info. If you are in the market for a home and spot one you might like by driving around, then taking a pic is the quickest, most efficient way to record info about the home. One click and you have a record of what it looks like and the GPS location. Don't need to pull out a pen to even write down anything.

I did it all the time when we were house shopping down here. Took a picture of every home we looked at from multiple angles including homes we just drove by and looked at. Came back to some we liked and took more pictures without the realtor. Was great to put them together in a folder and be able to review them and if we liked them get a good fuzzy feel about. Still have most of the pictures and go back and look at them and say hmmm glad we didn't. Wonder if folks in my current neighborhood know I have pictures of their house and considered buying it at one time. The agent is going to take pictures from the most favorable angle and I would take it from the most accurate angle and have personal ownership of the picture which made the house more personal. You never know if the person who pulls up to take a picture without an agent visited your home a week or two with their agent and are still considering. Then there is always the possibility that it is NRG highlighting the neighborhood for one of his post. Yes sharing with friends and relatives is easier if you have taken the picture and own the rights to it.
