Is it just me or have the water bills gone thru the roof? I haven't used more than I used to. Bill was $70-$75 for two months, now it is almost touching $50 for ONE month. A 35%-40% YOY increase (and they said there is no inflation...).

In addition to going to monthly bills they (City of Raleigh) transitioned to tiered rates. If you use more than a certain amount you pay more per gallon for the volume over that tier. It is supposed to reward those who conserve.

Mine has been the same way ever since they went to the monthly bills and I am in the lowest tier.

I'm at the lowest tier as well, 1-4 consumption, bill was still sky high. I don't know how I could use less water anyway, hell I'm gone 15 days a month in hotels.

Water does seem expensive.
Did you check for a leak? I place a blade of grass of the water meter needle and check an hour later for any movement making sure not to use water in the interim.

The monthly billing seemed sudden and the bills get to me right before they are due, so I am always checking online to make sure I know when its due now! So much easier when it was every other month. BUT, check your toilets for running, run your dishwasher on the quick clean cycle if things are crazy up in there, and brace yourself for this summer if you have a lawn that you want to maintain (the restrictions are on, but still...). Little stuff adds up when you have tiered billing!

Use less water! We are finally coming close to paying for the true cost of having clean drinking water. Buy low flow fixtures and be more conscious of your water usage. It is not that difficult.

A fifty dollar bill for water really isn't much for a month of safe potable water when you think about it.

Besides the "water bill" is actually a bill for water, sewer, trash, and recycling services. I bet you are actually only paying $15 - $19 for the water part. Around fifty cents a day.

Are we really being overcharged? I find it odd that people think they are getting hosed. If they charged any less for water it would almost have to be free.
