Try pulling data through www.spotcrime.com and see what you find. You can't get much detail, but it will give you an overall idea as to how often and why the cops visit the area.
Its around north hills subdivision or what about maple ridge area...its by eno park, next to 501. Can anyone tell me..
I'm so nervous because everyone keeps telling me durham is really bad. Please help
The Eno River State Park is quite a drive from Northgate Mall. By Maple Ridge, do you mean up off of Craig Rd?
Don't be afraid of Durham. If someone tells you that Durham has a high crime rate, then they are not putting it into context. Yes, Durham does have a higher crime rate than Raleigh or Cary, but Durham actually has less crime than most cities it size. See this report for details on Durham's crime rate in comparison to other cities:
I give this speech all the time, but Durham has less crime than Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Wilmington.
Again, I recommend using the Durham Police Department's crime mapper to see what sort of crime has happened in the last 12 months in your area. I strongly advise against SpotCrime and other services, as they tend to double-report some crimes and not report crimes to the proper address or area. They actually get their data directly from the DPD crime mapper, but then somehow muck it up upon importing it to their service.
Are you moving to that area without actually seeing it???
Best idea would be to stay somewhere temporarily and get a feel for the area.
Drive around with someone at night and check out the area.
There are areas around Northgate that I would live and others that I would not.
Yes Im actually going to drive around those areas at night. its 2 places im interested in; 1 is around horton hills subdivision area (north of durham near west of 501)and the other one is around gatewood forest area which is in the middle area of greysons green, ridgewood and twin lakes (east of durham)...can anyone tell me if those areas and neighborhoods are safe.. and is one less crime then the other?. this would make me decide better.
I personally wouldn't feel safe nearing near Northgate Mall, but from what others are saying you aren't really looking near the mall. I like living in Durham though.
Looks like Horton Hills essentially backs to the West Point on the Eno Park, yes? I used to work not far from there, and found it to be quite safe. And the park is really nice! Sorry, I'm not familiar with the area around Greysons Green.
