Please help...how does the area look like as far as crime near the northgate mall. And zip code 27703 or 27704.

Thanks for all your help. Please let me know as soon as possible...need to make a decision quickly.

What street/apartment complex are you looking at? The Northgate Mall is a big mall, and there are a few neighborhoods that border it.

You can get the most specific help by letting us know the name of the apartment complex or street that you are looking at.

In general, though, I would call the neighborhoods near the Northgate Mall relatively safe. You can check the Durham Crime Mapper for more info.

Try pulling data through www.spotcrime.com and see what you find. You can't get much detail, but it will give you an overall idea as to how often and why the cops visit the area.

I live in 27703 and I feel perfectly safe all the time, but the zip code is quite large

The Eno River State Park is quite a drive from Northgate Mall. By Maple Ridge, do you mean up off of Craig Rd?

Don't be afraid of Durham. If someone tells you that Durham has a high crime rate, then they are not putting it into context. Yes, Durham does have a higher crime rate than Raleigh or Cary, but Durham actually has less crime than most cities it size. See this report for details on Durham's crime rate in comparison to other cities:

http://www.durhampolice.com/news/pdf/100817_1.pdf

I give this speech all the time, but Durham has less crime than Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Wilmington.

Again, I recommend using the Durham Police Department's crime mapper to see what sort of crime has happened in the last 12 months in your area. I strongly advise against SpotCrime and other services, as they tend to double-report some crimes and not report crimes to the proper address or area. They actually get their data directly from the DPD crime mapper, but then somehow muck it up upon importing it to their service.

Are you moving to that area without actually seeing it???
Best idea would be to stay somewhere temporarily and get a feel for the area.
Drive around with someone at night and check out the area.
There are areas around Northgate that I would live and others that I would not.

I personally wouldn't feel safe nearing near Northgate Mall, but from what others are saying you aren't really looking near the mall. I like living in Durham though.

Looks like Horton Hills essentially backs to the West Point on the Eno Park, yes? I used to work not far from there, and found it to be quite safe. And the park is really nice! Sorry, I'm not familiar with the area around Greysons Green.
