Can someone tell me about this? I got the price details on the website but are the rides and food booths open? Do I need to buy ride tix in advance? It would be great to take the kids to the fair without breaking the bank!

All info is right on the website:

2010 N.C. State Fair - Preview Day (http://www.ncstatefair.org/2010/General/PreviewDay.htm - broken link)

Looks like it's more like Preview Late afternoon/Evening.

Wow..actually, this is not a bad deal at all! If you buy ride tickets in advance, its $10 for a sheet with 18 tickets. Buy it at the fair and its $20. Rides take anywhere between 3-6 tickets per ride. So, for preview day, spending $25 on an unlimited ride bracelet really is a good deal! I wish I saw this before I bought my advance tickets, lol. Oh well.

We went last year around Noon time the day before the fair opened. We thought the food stands would be open so we went there for lunch. I think the only ones that were actually open, were the ones by the gates when you first walked in. We were really hoping for a turkey leg.

Later on in the evening most if not all of the food vendors are open. Not all of the rides may be open though - depending on when they pass inspection.

DH and I mainly go for the food and exhibits, so Preview Day is perfect for us.

Thanks everyone. Another question: My kids are young (5 and under) - are there any rides that they can even go on? If so, would a $10 sheet with 18 ticket be enough?

Sure!!!
They have a "kiddie" section for the younger kids. Lots of games where they win a prize no matter what (which is really nice). They will love the petting zoo, the arts & crafts, the bunny barn, etc.

Most kid rides are about 3 tickets. You can always buy extra tickets if need be for a dollar. Just bring some extra cash just in case.
