I have posted this before, but its been a while. I am moving to the area in a 2 weeks and I am hoping for some insider tips on chill, neighborhood, Cheers-esque, non-college bars. The kinds I could become a regular at. Ive been told a few in Raleigh, what about Chapel Hill? Anyone know any that aren't all UNC crowd? I cant wait to move!
Maybe the Coffee Shop on Franklin Street. My friend used to hang out there all the time. I've only gone once or twice with her but she always goes back there when she is in town visiting.
In chapel hill, Tylers and spotted dog have little college crowd. Alot of the Franklin/rosemary bars will be dominated by locals before 9 pm as well (carolina brewery, bub omalleys, spanky's, top of the hill, etc)
I second the Tylers and Spotted Dog recommendations. Tylers is kind of a yuppie crowd. Spotted Dog is a more interesting mix of people (hipsters, gays, older folks). I loved Spotted Dog when I lived in Carrboro. I felt completely comfortable going there by myself. Both bars are actually in Carrboro.
