Am a single female in her early thirties looking to move to NC from NJ. I have family in both the Triangle and Asheville areas. I work as a nurse practitioner. I am considering either Charlotte or the Triangle. Am leaning towards Triangle b/c of its healthcare opportunities and b/c I lean liberal politically. I've also read some threads that Charlotte is a somewhat materialistic sort of town. So not me. Any thoughts? Thanks for any responses.
Charlotte is a "younger" town so that feel of materialism pretty much stems from that. It's also the Financial Hub of the Southeast so it's younger people with a little bit of scratch "showing off". I have friends who live there so I have a pretty good idea of that scene since they unfortunately live it.
As for Raleigh, definitely Healthcare opportunities and in all I like it better because it has less of a "big city" feel IMO.
I am a 32 and from NJ (Union County) and loving it down here in Durham. Now I am married, but we definitely have our share of fun in Downtown Durham, Glenwood South Raleigh and on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.

Hey OP, as others have said the healthcare industry is holding pretty strong around here. With Duke Med and UNC Healthcare plus the many other related clinics you shouldn't have a problem. I live in Durham and love it. Leaning liberal Durham is probably a place you want to check out also could look at Chapel Hill/Carrboro (Chapel Hill more of a college town still cool place). Either way you can't go wrong here in IMO. Good Luck
BlueMolly - I'm a nurse practitioner too. I work for Duke. First, you need to apply for your RN license through the NCBON. You cannot even get an NP license here until you have a job and a "primary supervising physician". Very different than where I came from (RI). If I can be of any help, please feel free to DM me.
