Hi All! My family and myself are looking to move in summer 2011. We will be visiting the cary/apex area next week. I have never moved out of state before, and I'm not sure how to best use my 6 days visiting. I have talked to a realtor a few times and she said she will meet us for a day or two. If anyone can share any ideas on how to best get to know an area in 6 days, it would be greatly appreciated. So far we know we want to look at cary, apex and holly springs. Thanks for any ideas.

Don't spend all your time looking at houses.

Think of the things/places/venues/services that are important to your lifestyle, and consider how to find a good home with easiest accessibility to the things you want.

Cary/Apex/Holly Springs is a fairly large area, as Cary alone is over 20 miles from NW to SE.

I'd suggest you tell your Realtor your criteria, for a home. She could send you listings that match your criteria. You can then have her put the listings in order of area and n'hood. You can take Holly Springs (for example) and do some driving through the n'hoods. Stop and speak to neighbors. Check out the shopping and the downtown. Do the same with Apex and Cary and any other areas that you are considering.

Have your Agent show you 2 homes in each area so that you can get a feel for what your money can buy. You aren't choosing a house, you are choosing an area and maybe a n'hood. By the time you come back to buy, you will know the area and there will always be plenty of homes for sale!
