Does anyone know of any place in the Triangle area that will take a bunch of film negatives and turn them into digital pics for me (either uploaded onto a secure website or preferably onto a DVD)? I have about 300-350 negative pieces (1-5 photos per piece, average of 4 photos per piece) that I'd like to have high-resolution digital images for. I'd estimate that there are 1200-1400 pictures in total.

I know of several national providers with good reputations, but I'd like to find someone local who can hopefully lower the price by not providing such services as "Free FexEx return delivery" and such.

I believe they are proud of their work.

But, let them quote you. I really do not have any idea what the cost would be for you.

There is a "price list" link on the site.

I decided to convert my moderately sized photo collection to digital, to be able to share and backup.

I found the costs to be way too high for my own budget (several years ago), and found the best solution was to look at eBay and purchase a used photo & negative scanner (that came with it's own software for scanning). They are scanners just like the flat-bed and the page-feed type, but smaller and handle only photo prints. (Mine also did negatives and slides). I got it for about $130, and hooked it up and scanned a pack of prints a night while I was doing other stuff too. It took a while, but I wasn't in any hurry.

I still have it and when I get around to finishing up, I can probably sell it to my brother for him to do the same, and end up almost no out-of-pocket.

If you have the time, and are just a bit computer savvy, this method can really save you a lot of $$$.
