I've been living in my current home for 2 years, and during the winter we don't seem to have any trouble with the electricity. But during the summer, all these storms seem to really effect the power! We lose electricity fairly regularly, any time there is a big storm our electricity goes out. If we are lucky, it's only for a few minutes. But there have been at least 2 times this summer so far where we have been without power for several hours, making the house really hot and uncomfortable. We live in a new development, with the oldest construction maybe 4 years old, with all power lines underground. We are near downtown Durham. I cannot for the life of me figure out why our power goes out so often!

I was just curious if other people lose power as often as we do. I grew up near Asheville, but my parents had a generator which would turn on automatically if the power went out -- so I often didn't realize if the power went off. Here, my whole neighborhood looses power with each severe thunderstorm! Yuck!

We were just discussing this yesterday because of the storm that passed by late in the afternoon. We did not lose power, but when we lived in cary/apex (near the intersection of ten ten and kildaire - and this was 5 years ago) we lost power regularly, weekly and it was MUCH worse during storm season! It seemed like a regular thing in our neighborhood. Since moving, we have lost power a couple of times, in 5 years.

I have no idea why we lost power so often in our old house. it was definitely odd to me!

Leigh

I can't remember the last time I lost power in a storm. Seems odd that yours would go off so often.

I'm in North Raleigh and I don't recall ever losing power in the 5 years that I have lived here.

Yeah me also northeast raleigh near Wake Forest, 4 years and not once have lost power due to weather. It's kinda disappointing sometimes. I've been itching to use my candles.

A few weeks ago, during a storm, the power went off and on about eight times. We've had the power go off briefly, but nothing like that.

Bummer. . .I was hoping everyone lost power at the drop of a hat around here. At least we have Duke Power saved in our phone books now so we can call quick when the electricity goes out! It just drives me crazy because I can't for the life of me figure out WHY our electricity gets knocked out so easily! Our lines are underground! And it seems to be just our neighborhood most of the time -- the neighborhood behind us and the school nearby tend to have lights on when ours go out. So lame!

Not often, but occasionally. Usually only if there are high winds (our power lines are above ground).

Its been my observation that the power infrastructure down here is really sub-par...We have Progress Energy and our power has been out several times this Spring-Summer...not to mention how poor Time warner cable has been in my area.
