I am coming into town next Friday or Saturday (4th or 5th) and need a safe clean place to stay while I meet with roommate candidates and/or look for our own place. I would like to be downtown or close-in so that I am centrally located and by public transit. I do have a car (that I am moving into town in) but I want to sell it when I get here and will be using the bus, train, etc. I am looking for budget/economy class all the way. I do not want to use up all of the $ I have saved on temporary housing, but I need to feel like my son and I are going to be safe. Any suggestions at all are welcomed and if anyone knows where I might find a good deal on housing close-in, drop me a line!
Thanks a ton!

I don't know the area yet, but I found this place as a temporary option:

http://www.portlandpensione.com/

Unfortunately their site went down last night, so as soon as someone gets them back online it will show what appears to be a clean place with weekly studios at about $220/week. This is in the area a few blocks north of the Rose Garden and Lloyd Center, so it's within easy walking of the free fare zone.

If anyone is more familiar with the area in regard to safety, then please let us know.

It's not in an area I would stay in for awhile, but I doubt anything bad would happen to you if it's where I think it is. It's largely commercial, with groups of wannabe gangsters around the mall driving their old beaters with the stereo up and homeless people on the sidewalks.

When a studio at $220/wk is "budget/economy all the way"... A male child needs his own room or will, soon. Live further out and you can get a real one or even two bedroom on that kind of money. Mass transit options are still good at distances from the city center that would have you completely off the grid in other metro areas. I should know, I live in one, nary a car insurance payment in sight.
