I drive from Beaverton to Rainier (on the Oregon side of the River across from Longview) on a fairly often basis. Even going Cornelius Pass to Highway 30 takes at least an hour, and 90 minutes is not rare. The day and time does not ever seem to matter. If I take I-5 up or back, it's closer to the 90 minute mark almost every time. I tend to drive it on weekends and at night well after rush hour. I agree that while Longview is not the most desirable place to live, if that is where your job is you should live there. At worse I'd work the job until I found something closer into town in Portland.
