Hi everyone. I searched and found out that a lot of people live in Portland and commute to Beaverton but I could not find if most people do so by car or public transit. I'm moving soon for a job in Beaverton. My plan is to live a little north of jeld wen and take the blue line from there to Beaverton. Is this a good idea or should I plan on driving for some reason? Using public transit looks like it will be around a 45 minute commute with about 20 minutes of walking and 25 minutes on the train. Thanks for your help!

If you can take the MAX use it. Your 20 minute walk can do great things for your health. Folks who drive do so because transit isn't practical for them.

The drive on I-217, Hgy 26 (even if you take the cut-off to Jefferson Street) is no cake walk.

Welcome to my neighborhood.

Another vote for MAX. To shorten a commute even more, you could look at biking rather than the walking portion.

Your other option from the area north of Jeld-Wen Field would be the #20 bus, which runs along Burnside to Cedar Hills Blvd to the Beaverton Transit Center. That or MAX would be my choice unless you need to go in the middle of the night when transit isn't running.

MAX if you can, but the trains are always full during rush hour, and so is Highway 26.

So the answer to your question is actually "Both."

You can also ride a bike too, although the stretch over the West Hills will be kind of a pain. I know of three people who do it every day rain or shine.

Sounds like he's doing a reverse commute though so trains probably aren't as full....

There is no such thing as a reverse commute along the Highway 26 Corridor.

Definitely consider biking the rest of the way after getting off the train. That could cut your commute time down quite a bit.

I did almost an identical commute, but instead further out to Hillsboro. Past the Beaverton TC, it becomes really hit or miss when the trains come, even during rush hour (going back into town seemed consistently more inconsistent). Other headaches like all of the ticket machines being busted at the Hillsboro stations made me decide to just drive it. I'm all about being an environmentally-friendly person, but MAX leaves a lot to be desired.

Many employers offer a free TriMet pass, and if you use it to commute buy a monthly pass. The OP will be living close to the Stadium Fred Meyer which sells passes.

TriMet is planning to install a smart phone ticketing system so that those platform based ticketing machines will be less of an issue.
