Hi everyone!

Where can I buy local fish from local fisherman? Anyone know where? I'd love to get in the know.

Thanks.

Not many direct-from-the-fisherman places here (plenty on the coast, though.) A good place for local seafood is Flying Fish Company Portland OR Fresh Fish Daily.

Drive up the Columbia River Gorge to Cascade Locks. There are usually a couple of Native Americans selling fish there.

I don't think it is legal for local fishermen to sell you local fish. However, you can drive over to the coast and walk the docks and buy ocean fish right off the boat. If that boat happens to have a commercial fishing license.

Oh great! Where exactly at Cascade Locks? Are they just on the side of the road somewhere or what? I think this is what I have heard of.

Also, where on the coast? Forgive me, I'm new to the area! It would be nice to know where to stock up on fresh fish!

About 48 miles from downtown up the Columbia River Gorge:

On the coast, your best bet is Newport Bay or Depoe Bay and sometimes Astoria. That of course depends on how big the "dead zone" gets this year.

Not legal but they do it. They can catch them legally, but it is you who will get the ticket if you buy them. The State police watch for people trying to buy Native American caught fish.

Native Americans have the equivalent of commercial fishing rights on the Columbia River above the Bonneville Dam:

Tip:

If you buy fish at Cascade Locks, check the freshness.

You don't know how long they have been sitting in the cooler.......

Looks like some nice weekend fishing trips to the Oregon lakes are going to be in order for the summer. Nothing like eating your own catch. You know how old they are and where they've been.
