So knock on wood, I did really well in an interview for a job in downtown Portland (near Chinatown)...and I'm really hoping to get it.

That said, just in case, I'm going ahead and trying to pin down somewhere to live to avoid what happened last time I moved (~3 weeks in a hotel with dog in boarding = bad). After analyzing the area, I think I've settled on living in Beavertonish...close to the freeway/light rail. Ideally, I'd like a multi-bedroom townhouse... that said, my biggest thing is that I have a ~44 pound, 3.5 year old Siberian Husky. I'm trying to find somewhere pet friendly, but in general, most places say "call for details" which leads me to believe they only like smaller pets. A fenced in yard would be nice, but not required if there is a nice park nearby. As far as prices go, I have no idea what to expect for salary... but it seems rent runs fairly high there (right now I'm pretty lucky... $650/mo for a single family home in a decent area). I fully expect to pay at least $1000...but the lower the better. Any suggestions/advice?

Also, I'd like suggestions/advice for general things to do/living in Portland. For a background, I'm a single, young, gay male with a bachelor's degree who loves beer and watching football, and I'm a huge foodie. It sounds like Portland is a pretty awesome city, so it should be fun trying to find people like me to hang out with heh.

Thanks!

You really need to call for details and be prepared to discuss your dog's disposition and training. Personally I love big dogs who are quiet and well mannered over small, yappy, over-active breeds.

Thanks! Are you saying this as a person who rents? This would actually encourage me to call these places... I think I actually have the quietest dog ever (minus the first ~2 weeks after moving somewhere and police/ambulance/fire sirens).

Actually I do, in a building with a 'No Pets' policy.

Some landlords have size limits, some don't. I am a landlord and I don't have a size limit. I do not allow a few breeds or young puppies, and dogs must be clean, trained, well mannered, and have a reliable friendly temperament.

I currently have 2 tenants with Siberians and a tenant with a Siberian just moved out to be replaced by a tenant who has a mutt with some husky somewhere in the pedigree. Although Labradors seem to be more common with tenants.

Sorry, but I am not in Portland and don't have any vacancies, anyway. Vacancies are filling up super fast here in Central Oregon and the market is supposed to be even tighter in Portland, so if you find something, don't dawdle while you make up your mind. Jump on it quick.

Adding that if your dog is going to be noisy the first 2 weeks, you'd better get that issue resolved, because if I got complaints about noise about your dog, I'd kick the dog out. I'm not the only landlord who would do that, and it would be a shame if you found a place for the dog ony to lose it because the dog did too much barking or howling.

The dog is going to be on probation at first until it proves itself to not be a problem.
