My family is moving to P-town this summer. My husband's job will be between Vancouver and Portland so we are not totally sure where we are going to live yet. We are new to the area so Pros/ Cons are welcome! Our biggest concern is getting our children into good (public) schools particularly middle. any advice is helpful!

So... your husband's job will be on the Columbia River? There isn't a whole lot of "between" Vancouver and Portland, unless you're on Hayden Island and even then that's still solidly Portland.

Seriously though, if you're working on Oregon, live in Oregon. If you're working in Washington, live in Washington. Just from a tax stand point this is a necessity.

There are some jobs that involve working on both sides of the Columbia. He needs to ask his employer whether they will consider him to be an Oregon or Washington employee. Incidental work in either state won't change his status.

There are several school districts in the metro area. I don't think you can generalize by state.

Vancouver schools have a better reputation but I'm sure there are some decent school districts you can position yourself in if it makes your quality of life a lot better. Lake Oswego schools have a great reputation but it's a bit South and a bit pricey.
