Unfortunately for those of us that are trying to find a job from afar, the rate isn't so good.

Thank goodness I have a secure job here in Ohio until I can find one out there.

Apparently Intel needs to go out of state to find employees. Why is the education system so lackluster? This would help the unemploy further.

Intel has very specific needs. It has nothing to do with local educational programs except, maybe, at the university level.

What we need to do is to provide educational programs that meets the needs of Intel employee's children.

Hi Nell,

I got my information from this article in the Portland Tribune. They mention they would like to have more options to hire from in-state.

Nell's point still stands. Intel hires extensively from OIT in Klamath Falls (to the point that if you're in the right program, no matter your grades you're pretty much going to get a job of some sort at Intel upon graduation,) but the amount of people they get is no where near enough.

The problem is the entire education system though, not just Oregon's. This is why large tech companies are hiring so many foreigners. Between lower costs, better education, and quite frequently a better (from a corporate standpoint,) attitude towards working it makes sense at the Business level.

On the other hand it can be argued that if so many companies didn't take advantage of massive tax breaks and put more money into the system, perhaps we'd be able to afford better education all around.

While corporations may falsely claim that availability, cost, education and a better attitude are the reasons why they continue to hire foreigners over Americans, in reality there’s only one real reason. Can you guess which one?

Americans are lazy slobs, feel entitled to everything and have poorer work ethics in general?

has nothing to do with nationality. It is based on personal/cultural values. There are slobs everywhere.

Oregon should improve their schools, as far as I see it. That is key to being a competitive state.
