And yet he was caught and taken into custody extremely quickly.

No government agency or police force, no matter how big or how well trained, is going to be able to prevent every single attempted attack.

We don't want to find Bin Laden. Finding him would put the President (any President) in the precarious position of explaining why combat operations in Afghanistan are still necessary. By not finding, we always have a back-burner reason to stay engaged in the Middle East.
