“Six in 10 Americans believe the federal government has too much power, one percentage point above the previous high recorded in September 2010,” according to a new survey by Gallup. That’s up from 39 percent in 2003 and 56 percent in 2008. The year-long upward shift is powered by post-election worries among President Barack Obama’s Democratic and independent supporters, amid news reports about drone strikes, surveillance of the media, Obamacare’s data collection, IRS pressure on political groups and the National Security Agency’s far-reaching anti-jihadi surveillance."

Public worry about government power hits record high | The Daily Caller

And here are the actual survey results:

Americans' Belief That Gov't Is Too Powerful at Record Level

I'm thinking a person with Libertarian leanings might mine this for a win in 2016. I certainly expect them to do better than 2012.

I'm interested to hear what Big Government Liberals on this forum have to say about this. My guess is that they avoid this thread altogether.

What the poll is missing is what specific powers does the Federal Government have that are considered excessive? I suspect the uptick in 2013 is a result of the NSA surveillance story.

Going into the details of the poll, it's interesting seeing the shift between 2008 and 2009. Democrat numbers dropped while Republican numbers soared (by nearly offsetting amounts). Yet what has really changed, in terms of legislation or policies, since then?

What this poll really says is that four out of 10 Americans are paying virtually no attention to what is going on in the U.S. right now.

I agree with Smoke-Jaguar4, since the NSA spying was exposed a far greater number of people are now aware and offended. Many believed they were be protected by legislation like the Patriot Act and others only to find their rights eroded by an increasingly deceptive government agencies spying on the American public.

One action that stands out is President Obama declaring himself judge, jury, and executioner on American citizens. I am referring to the slaughter by drones of suspected terrorists who were American citizens. Regardless of the crime every American is entitled to trial by a jury of his peers.

Without a doubt when any government can, as the US can now do, enter person's home without a warrant and place that person/family under arrest without charging them and continue to hold them indefinitely at an undisclosed location our Constitution and Bill of Rights no longer have any value. Actions like this one are reminiscent of Nazi Germany.

This isn't peace time, and just last week Obama wanted to bomb a sovereign interest and right now he seems to still be interested in going it alone at 10:30 am Sept 24-13 on the tv this instant.

It is obvious we must BOMB somebody! Obama says so. Funny he hasn't mentioned BOMBING KENYA yet?

I almost can't remember Peace Time in m y life time. It was a brief moment after Korea and before Viet Nam and that was brief.

There is no justification for the federal govt's intrusion into people's lives.

Dems are crazy control freaks.
